Accident at work this morning in Comiso. A 53 year old man, Antonino Giompiccolodied after being hit by the wheels of a lorry in the internal courtyard of the Avide winery, on the Comiso Chiaramonte provincial road, two kilometres from the town of Comiso.
Hit by a truck that was carrying out a manoeuvre
The man he was helping the driver of the heavy vehicle to carry out the manoeuvre to exit the yard and enter the road. A difficult maneuver, in a narrow space, but an operation that the man had also carried out many other times. This time, however, he ended up under the rear wheels of the truck. The exact dynamics of what happened are yet to be reconstructed. There are no cameras in the company and no one noticed anything. The only witness is the driver of the truck, a man from Benevento, who worked for a company from Campania.
The surveys were carried out by the Carabinieri of the Comiso station, with the assistance of the traffic police. The investigations are coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Ottavia Polipo who intervened on site authorizing the removal of the body after the carabinieri’s investigations. The truck was placed under seizure, the body of Antonino Giompiccolo is in the morgue of the cemetery of Comiso, awaiting the magistrate’s decision on whether to perform an autopsy. Spresal personnel also intervened to carry out safety checks in the workplace.
Antonino Giompiccolo was married, but had no children. He had been working at Avid for some time. He was a very private person, a hard worker, much appreciated and respected at work.
