PIETRASANTA. A day of work that turns into a tragedy. Yet another in Italy. Yet another in Tuscany. The image is once again terrible. The tractor overturned in a ditch under the Rocca di Pietrasanta. There where he found death – Monday 1st July – Federico Nappi, 32 years old, resident in Pietrasanta. In a few months he would become a father.
The accident
Federico was working on cutting the vegetation around the Rocca. This is the Sala Fortress, also known as Rocca Ghibellina, one of the fortresses in the municipality of Pietrasanta, in the province of Lucca. Of Lombard origin, it has great historical and cultural importance. And it was precisely while he was working on the mowing tractor that Federico, due to circumstances yet to be clarified, ended up in a ditch and was crushed by the vehicle.
The alarm
The alarm was immediately raised at the 118 operations center and the firefighters. Within a few minutes, help arrived on site but the situation immediately appeared desperate. Federico didn’t make it. The weight of the tractor he was working on took his life.
Sports, animals and the baby on the way
Kind smile, blond hair, a good physique, a passion for motorcycles. Federico Nappi was a sportsman, he loved the sea and surfing. He worked for many years as a lifeguard in the bathing establishments of Marina di Pietrasanta, then with a partner he decided to set up a cooperative that dealt with interventions, such as the one he was carrying out on the tractor at the foot of the Rocca di Pietrasanta. Federico’s partner is five months pregnant. The creature will be born without a father due to a terrible fate. From the photos on his Facebook profile, his great love for animals also emerges. The photo of Federico affectionately embracing a horse is touching – seen today, after the tragedy. Images that break the heart. Federico was a brave boy, always adventurous, like when he decided to move from Tuscany towards Milan, where he worked in a commercial business for a few years.
Friends
Federico died in the early afternoon of Monday, July 1st. In the hours immediately following the tragedy, the terrible news spread among friends and family, throwing everyone into despair. A silence full of disbelief and desperation. Because Federico had left home to go to work and found death. Him too. Like many – too many – other victims of work. In Italy and in Tuscany.
