Tragedy in Brindisi, where a 25-year-old girl died this morning in Fasano after falling inside an elevator shaft in a building in via Piave. The victim, named Clelia Ditano, who was on the fourth floor, asked for the elevator but after opening the door she fell into the void: according to an initial reconstruction, in fact, the cabin did not rise. The firefighters are on site to recover the body of the young woman, while the Carabinieri of the Fasano company are carrying out surveys to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident. The building where the accident occurred is owned by Arca (regional agency for housing and living) Nord Salento.
The alarm raised by parents
It was the parents of the 25-year-old who raised the alarm a few minutes after 6 this morning, worried because their daughter had not returned home. Also due to these elements, the Carabinieri of the Fasano company who are conducting the investigations are verifying the possibility that the accident could have occurred during the night. According to what we understand, the girl returned to the apartment to leave some personal effects, to go downstairs again perhaps because she had forgotten something. And in these seconds the accident would have occurred.
The cell phone in the elevator shaft
“She was a sunny girl. She had many dreams, including getting a driving license and being independent. And certainly getting married. Now those dreams have been shattered.” This is how her daughter Giuseppe Ditano, the victim’s father, remembers her. The man waited for hours in front of the building where he lives with his wife for the firefighters to recover the 25-year-old’s body. “It had never happened before that the elevator stopped like that. This morning,” the man explained, “seeing that she wasn’t at home, we tried to ring her cell phone and we realized that she was in the elevator shaft. I immediately understood that something had happened and we raised the alarm,” the man told reporters.
