Austrians, Belgians and Australians: boom in foreigners looking for a home in Liguria – Primocanale.it

LIGURIA – Foreigners like Liguria more and more. The confirmation comes not only from the number of presences but also from the real estate market data. According to analyses, more and more Americans, Germans and French are looking for a home in Liguria. But the peak in requests in these first six months of the year comes from Austria, Belgium and Australia. Among the most dynamic areas from this point of view is above all the Gulf of Tigullio with 16.8% of requests out of the total for the period January-June 2024. While the area that grew the most compared to the same period last year is Lunigiana with +17.3%.

The biggest requests coming from foreigners for the sale concern homes with a value of up to 100 thousand euros and the ones most sought after are apartments, possibly already renovated. According to the latest report from Gate-away.com, a specialized site in the sector, the ones attracting foreign tourists to buy a house are cultural heritage and the scenic beauty of Liguria.

Among the provinces, Imperia is the most sought after with 38.76% of requests, followed by Genoa with 29.6%, Savona with 19.6% and La Spezia with 11.9%. As regards the Municipalities, the preferences reward Portofino (GE) with 13.2% of the total requests. Followed by Sanremo (IM) with 6.6%, Bordighera (IM) with 4.3%, Ceriana (IM) with 3.7%. But where does the buying and selling mostly take place? In first place is Dolceacqua followed by Bordighera and Sanremo

The greatest interest comes from United States citizens with 21% of the total requests. Next is the Germany with 15.7% of the preferences, the France with 8.9% of requests and the United Kingdom with 6.4%. However, it achieved the best result in terms of increase compared to the same period in 2023 Austria with +65%, followed by Belgium with +38.26% y/y Australia with +34%.

In terms of the type of property sought, the preferences of the requests focus on the category apartment (22.8% of the total), followed by the Villa category (17% of the total) and detached house (8%). Foreigners are looking for a home completely renovated (61.9%) and over 120 m2 (50%). On the price front, it is the 0-100 thousand range that records the greatest requests with 35.6% of preferences. Followed by the one between 100-250 thousand euros with 24.5%. Only 10% are looking for homes over 1 million euros.
