Women’s foil: Azzurre gold at the European Championships in Basel with Errigo

Another gold medal for the Italian women’s foil Dream Team. On the sixth and final day of the European Fencing Championships in Basel, the eleventh medal arrived for Italy. It was won by the foil girls, who beat Poland in the final. The quartet of foil players formed by Arianna Errigo (standard bearer at the Paris Games), Martina Favaretto, Francesca Palumbo and Alice Volpi clearly prevailed with a score of 45-27. In the semi-finals, the Poles had eliminated France by the skin of their teeth 41-40. It is the second title in these Europeans for Arianna Errigo, the leader of the Italian team. The Italian team has won 14 of the last 15 editions of the tournament. The Italians haven’t been off the podium since Plovdiv 2009.
