Beige dress, black leather shoes, sunglasses with graduated lenses to better hide shiny eyes. Giuseppe Fornarelli, 59 years old, a local police officer on duty in Novara, marched proudly and excitedly together with hundreds of Upo students at the Graduation day which took place on Saturday. In Piazza Martiri della Libertà, where the procession arrived, as usual he also threw his blue touch into the air, the color of the Faculty of Economics and Public Policies. «I graduated for mum and dad – he says, holding back a sob -. It was a great wish of theirs, I finally managed to make it come true.” With a thesis, he says with satisfaction, “on the organization of the local police of Novara”.
Fornarelli had already undertaken a university career at the Turin Polyclinic years ago, after studying at Omar. “I had to interrupt my studies because I needed to go to work – he explains – and in the meantime I also got married at the beginning of the nineties.” In that period, he says, the letter for compulsory military service also arrived: «After the military I joined the Carabinieri and at that point I had a family and a new job to look for. I closed the books and got busy, finding office jobs in various companies.”
After twenty years of life as a commuter, Fornarelli said enough: «I decided to take a competition to become a local police officer in the Municipality of Novara and I have been on duty since 2009». A job that allowed him to create stability and think about his past as a student. «I have taken two other important steps since that moment – Fornarelli continues -. The first was to adopt my daughter, who is now 18 years old, from the Turin juvenile court. The second was to let my wife convince me to resume my studies.” After obtaining a diploma in the Novara branch of the School of Management of Turin, he explains, «I enrolled in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Urbino, alternating the role of agent with that of commuter student. After my three-year degree in 2021, I have now obtained my master’s degree at UPO.”
