An open letter to the senators elected in Emilia-Romagna to ask to modify the decree-law n.76 and increase the maximum compensation of 6,000 euros for movable property destroyed or damaged by the flood. The mayor and president of the Province of Ravenna Michele de Pascale wrote it in an appeal which we are publishing in full.
The text of the letter
«Dear senators, dear senators, for the feeling that binds you to Emilia-Romagna and its citizens so hard hit by the flood of May 2023, and who after more than a year still find themselves in conditions of great hardship and difficulty , I appeal to you to propose an amendment that leads to an increase in the ceiling of 6,000 euros per home as a contribution to compensation for movable property destroyed or seriously damaged, provided for in Article 1 paragraph 6-quater of Legislative Decree no. 76, containing “Urgent provisions for post-disaster reconstruction, for civil protection interventions and for carrying out major international events”.
The established figures for compensation for movable property damaged by the flood – 3,200 euros for the room used as a kitchen” and “further 700 euros for each of the other rooms, up to a maximum overall amount of 6,000 euros” – they are absolutely insufficient to compensate for the enormous damages
caused by flood events which in many cases destroyed the entire furniture of the home, including appliances.
Therefore, for the good of our Emilia-Romagna communities, I ask you to propose the correction of the law by increasing the ceiling to a plausible figure, which takes into account the real situation in which many families find themselves; from the information I have gathered in recent months, the damage to movable property – even without wanting to consider vehicles, as should be done – in several cases they would reach close to 30,000 euros.
