Tomorrow, Wednesday 19 June at 11:00, at the Piazza della Pace in Favara, the ceremony of first lighting of the methane gas flame will be held, marking a historic moment for the city.

The methanization works, which began on 1 March 2021, had to be completed within 40 months, i.e. by June 2024, according to the timescales envisaged in the initial project, with the possibility of requesting only one renewal.

The project, financed through Project Financing with public and private funds, involved an investment of approximately 23 million euros. The works were carried out in batches. The project involved the laying of approximately 77 thousand linear meters of pipelines to supply the city’s utilities and the construction of a control cabin, six derivation systems and pressure reducers.

The Regional Public Works Commission had approved the project on 17 July 2019. In the press conference (25 February 2021) announcing the start of the works, the start date of the works was initially announced as 6 March, then brought forward to the day 1.

Tomorrow’s ceremony celebrates an important step towards the launch of a crucial infrastructure for Favara, which should significantly improve the quality of life of its citizens.
