A three-meter incursion into Chilean territory in Tierra del Fuego by the Argentine Armed Forces has triggered a diplomatic dispute between the two countries. The Argentine Navy has improved the infrastructure of the “Hito 1” border outpost in the Strait of Magellan. However, the installed solar panels exceeded the border by three meters, an error recognized by Argentina, but which cannot be immediately resolved. The Argentine ambassador to Chile, Jorge Faurie, downplayed the incident, promising to remove the panels as soon as weather conditions allow, probably within six months. The Chilean authorities, while acknowledging the error as being in good faith, ask for a timely correction.
