LIGURIA – There are 9 arrests resulting from the maxi operation coordinated by the National Center for combating online child pornography (Cncpo) of the postal police service and the District Attorney’s Office of Catania. Among them there is also an arrested person who lives in the province of Imperia.
It all started from analysis of some electronic devices seized from a suspect, arrested months ago for possession of child pornography. On one of these, groups had been found – within a messaging platform – dedicated to exchanging gruesome images and videos, with abuse even of very young children. Through meticulous and complex investigations, the postal police managed to identify the individuals active in the groups. At that point searches began in various Italian cities, including Genoa where two homes were searched. In total, 26 people are under investigation in various Italian regions for possession and dissemination of child pornography material. Thousands of files seized. Also involved are the cities of Catania (1), Rome (3), Milan (3), Brescia (2), Varese (1), Bergamo (1), Catanzaro (1), Bari (2), Foggia (1), Turin (2), Cuneo (1), Genoa (2), Imperia (1), Avellino (1), Livorno (1), Prato (1), Ravenna (1), Ascoli Piceno (1).
One of those arrested, in addition to thousands of child pornography files, had in his cloud the digital format of the book “Guia del pedofilo” (“Guida del pedofilo”). The material found and seized during the searches is being examined by the District Prosecutor’s Office of Catania and the Postal Police for further investigative insights also useful for identifying young victims.
