TODAY IS: World Wind Day

Like every year since 2007, June 15th is the date of Global Wind Day, the international awareness initiative dedicated to wind power and promoted in Italy by ANEV.

The result of coordination between the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), WindEurope and the various national associations, the Global Wind Day aims to make wind energy known to the general public, through a series of public events which will be held all over the world: guided tours of wind farms, conferences with industry experts and much more.

On the occasion of World Wind Day, ANEV is organizing a conference today at the GSE Auditorium entitled “Wind energy: tools for the industrial development of the sector and the achievement of the 2030 objectives”.

IT HAPPENED TODAY: year 1864 – Foundation of the Italian Red Cross:

Committee of the Italian Association for the aid of the wounded and sick in war: with this name the Italian Red Cross was born in Milan, on the initiative of the “Milan Medical Committee” of the Italian Medical Association.
The mission of the new entity, chaired by Cesare Castiglioni, began with the initiative that led the representatives of 16 European states to sign the Geneva Convention (22 August 1864). For the first time, the right to aid for the war wounded, whether civilian or military, is recognised. On that same date it was decided to distinguish the volunteers with a coat of arms: a red cross on a white field, which will remain the official symbol of the International Red Cross.

Called to the first test in the Battle of Custoza (Third War of Independence), the Italian volunteers guaranteed their work in all theaters of war in which Italy was engaged, up until the Second World War. At the same time, they are engaged in the fight against tuberculosis and malaria, also intervening after every catastrophe, from the Casamicciola earthquake onwards (28 July 1883).

Commissionerate from 1980 to 1998 and put into liquidation, since January 2014 it has taken on the name of “Body instrumental to the Italian Red Cross”. On a national level, the CRI currently has among its main tasks: the promotion of health education; social-health assistance during disasters and emergencies; the organization of the first aid service, the transport of the sick and social welfare services; raising awareness about blood donation.

GOOGLE DOODLES: Israel Book Fair:

The beginning of summer marks in many countries a rediscovery of the love of reading through fairs, salons and festivals dedicated to books. In Israel this tradition began in 1926, thanks to Bracha Peli, a young bookseller who fled the then Soviet Union with her family to save themselves from the pogroms against the Jews.
His initiative to open a stall in Tel Aviv to sell cheap books turned into an annual event called Hebrew Book Day, which in 1961 changed its name to Israel Book Fair. of the book of Israel”). From that year it became a traditional event dedicated to Israeli and Arab world authors, with meetings and events aimed at bringing people, and in particular children and teenagers, closer to reading.

On the fiftieth anniversary of the first edition, which took place in 2011, Google dedicated a local doodle to the Fair (visible in Israel).
