stopped a couple of Neapolitans

The Carabinieri of the Company of Villa San Giovanni (RC) have reported a man and a woman both at liberty Neapolitansaged 45 and she 39, and seized numerous gold jewels with an estimated value of approximately 80,000 euros.

The investigations arose from the complaint of an elderly woman from Bova Marina (RC) who was the victim of one fraud implemented with a consolidated technique: pretending Carabinieri, telephoned the victim, telling her that her son, arrested after a car accident with injuries, would urgently need money to cover legal costs and bail. The switchboard operator kept the victim on the phone as long as necessary, while the victim, not having cash, collected all the precious jewelery kept in her house. At that point, the accomplice entered the scene, physically showing up at the unfortunate woman’s home, posing as a lawyer, and having her huge loot delivered.

This time, however, the Carabinieri, thanks to rapid and incisive investigative activity, managed to identify and stop the two scammers who, having fled, then decided to stay at an accommodation facility in Scilla. The old woman’s precious possessions were all recovered and seized, while charges were filed against the two criminals.

The proceeding is currently in the preliminary investigation phase and the principle of not guilty applies to the suspects until the final sentence.
