A competition that raises awareness of the importance of blood and plasma donation. For 14 years, good journalism that talks about the world of volunteering has relied on the FIDAS “Isabella Sturvi” National Journalism Award. This morning, in the “Walter Tobagi” room of the FNSI – National Federation of the Italian Press, the awards ceremony for the 14th edition of the Award that put Michela Iaccarino on the podium for the National Section, Alessandro Maria Li Donni for the Local Section and Alessandra Neri for the Emerging Section reserved for under 35s.
The morning was opened by the President of the FNSI, Vittorio Di Trapani. “The house of journalists – he underlined – is the house of rights and I hope that an award like this, which supports the right to health, continues to find its natural space here. The world of journalism and volunteering have many points of contact, collaboration is precious. For example, the story of the daily commitment of many volunteers who, with their gesture, contribute to guaranteeing the right to care is essential to encourage the spread of the culture of donation. This is also why there is an ever-increasing need for trained, informed and quality journalism.”
“For fourteen years – said the FIDAS National President, Giovanni Musso – this Award represents recognition of the commitment that our world, that of blood volunteers, makes available to society with an altruistic and supportive gesture that contributes to guaranteeing a right, the right to health, and to make our society a civil community”. With his speech, Professor Vincenzo De Angelis, director of the National Blood Centre, photographed the country’s transfusion situation, underlining that as regards red blood cells, Italy is self-sufficient, while for plasma-derived drugs we are forced to purchase plasma from abroad. It therefore becomes essential to support a marketing and communication campaign.
The winner of the National Section, Michela Iaccarino, convinced the Jury with an article published in Il Fatto Quotidiano which emphasizes the importance of blood donation, inserting it into a broader global dimension which also affects the sustainability of the Planet. The award was presented to her by the National President of FIDAS, Giovanni Musso.
For the Local Section, the first prize was won by Alessandro Maria Li Donni, from the Orvietolife.it newspaper: his is the story of a girl who, despite her strong fear of donating blood, manages to overcome it and overcome her seriously injured brother . The award was presented by Enzo Emmanuello, president of FIDAS Gela.
For the Emerging Section, dedicated to the under 35s, Alessandra Neri won the first prize, with an article published in the newspaper of the “Walter Tobagi” School of Journalism, which highlights, through the story of a family saga, the beauty of passing down from generation to generation. the civic gesture of blood donation in generation. The award was presented to her by Ines Seletti, member of the FIDAS Board of Directors with responsibility for Communications.
Special mention to the journalist Lidia Scognamiglio (Medicina33 – Rubrica Tg2 RAI), already winner of the Award, for her commitment to work that has always been aimed at raising awareness of health issues.
During the morning, moderated by RAI journalist Adriana Pannitteri, the figure of Isabella Sturvi, who passed away on 12 July 2009, long head of the Blood and Transplant Office of the Ministry of Health, was remembered.
