An argument in Cava d’Aliga. Carabinieri have carried out extensive checks since yesterday evening

The causes of the argument between some people who, yesterday evening in Piazza Mediterraneo, the ancient heart of the village of Cava d’Aliga, beat each other by triggering the checks, need to be ascertained. Quarrel with physical aggression which did not lead to serious injuries but which raised the bar for checks by the police. The soldiers of the Modica Company and the Scicli Tenenza were already carrying out a series of checks in the area last night and in the early morning of today. The recordings of the video surveillance systems inside the inhabited center of Cava d’Aliga are noted, both in the entrance and exit areas as well as in the meeting places. The serenity in one of the quietest villages on the Scicli coast is at risk.

In particular, it is to be ascertained whether the criminal activities linked to the dealing of narcotic substances have moved from the town of Scicli along the coast.

Traffickers and pushers may have moved their axis of sale from Scicli to the coast. In the city, in the central part of the town, police checks are constant and numerous. At night, and for weeks even during the day, there is a continuous “siege” with patrols stopping and checking suspicious and non-suspicious cars. It is that response from the State that the Sciclitan community is asking for after the events of recent times which have led to a tightening of control and security measures. A package of interventions that the city has asked for and continues to ask for in the name of legality and civil coexistence. The eradication of criminal activity, in particular the sale of narcotic substances, is what the area needs.

The presence of the Army soldiers in the villages in view of the start of the summer season.

Last night’s dispute in Cava d’Aliga could be attributable precisely to this new phenomenon: that of the movement of drug sales activities from the city to the coast with a preference for “dead” areas, areas that are not particularly frequented. And Piazza Mediterraneo in Cava d’Aliga, after the nightlife (albeit modest) moved to the seafront of Via Frine, would be an ideal place for death traffickers. But the attention of the Carabinieri of the Modica Company and the Scicli Tenenza in these areas of the coast gives rise to hope for a difficult and improbable criminal “settlement”.
