GENOA. The conditions of the six-year-old boy who ended up in the waters of the port of Lavagna (Genoa) yesterday afternoon while he was aboard the family car which crashed into the sea from a dock on which he was maneuvering remain very serious.

The little boy and his 45-year-old mother, who was also very serious, remained under the water trapped in the cockpit for many minutes before being freed by a diver who happened to be present near the accident site. The child immediately appeared to be in cardiac arrest, the most serious one having arrived by helicopter at the Gaslini hospital in Genoa and is now in intensive care.

This morning the doctors described the situation as desperate. At the Lavagna hospital, the 45-year-old Milanese mother remains intubated with a reserved prognosis. Also in the Lavagna hospital are her 16-year-old daughter, her 12-year-old son and her father, in a state of shock and assisted by a pool of psychologists. The latter three exited the car first and suffered no physical damage.

The investigations are being conducted by the Circomare of Santa Margherita Ligure which should already give the firefighters the task of recovering the sunken car today.

According to initial reports, the car was reversing onto the pier when it suddenly didn’t stop and after tearing up a column it ended up in the water. The family was returning from a boat trip and was organizing their return home. (HANDLE).
