BIG UNKNOWN
If it is true that the results will begin to be available late at night on Sunday, for the European elections, while for the local elections, they are on Monday afternoon, there is already a first big unknown. More than an unknown we can talk about a sort of spectrum, which is that of low voter turnout. If a good day starts in the morning, we can immediately say that the fear of abstentionism has foundations, at least if we look at how things went in the Netherlands, the first European state to have already voted. Well, the number of voters stopped at 47 percent. Which is to say that not even half of them went to the polls.
THE COMPARISON
Those who say that the comparison does not hold up are right, first of all because the Netherlands is certainly not a country where the average number of voters has always been high, on the contrary, and then the polls remained open for only one day, compared to two (one and a half to be honest) which will happen in Italy. But there is another point that could play in favor of an at least decent percentage: in the Bel Paese, in fact, people do not vote only for the European elections, but in the region, as mentioned, there are 114 Municipalities that renew the municipal government, there is a Region voting and important municipalities such as Florence, Perugia and others. In short, things could be better than they are painted.
THE TIMES
As mentioned, we start today at 3pm. Yesterday at 4pm the polling stations were set up, the ballots were checked and stamped. Polling chairmen and scrutineers will meet today to reopen the remaining polling station available from 3pm to 11pm. The doors will then reopen on Sunday morning at 7am to definitively close the voting part at 11pm. At that point the European counting will start in all sections. It must immediately be said that it will be a long thing for the simple fact that in addition to the vote for the symbol, there are up to 3 preferences to be counted with the possibility, if they are not alternated correctly, that at least two will be cancelled. It’s easy to think of comparisons between list representatives.
THE ELECTED
Furthermore, to have data related to the possibility that the most accredited Friulian candidates have been elected or remain at home, it will also be necessary to wait for the counting of the entire electoral district which includes not only Friuli Venezia Giulia but also Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige and ‘Emilia Romagna. In short, it is difficult to imagine that before Monday morning we could know exactly who was elected. At 3pm on Monday, however, the ballots of the 114 municipalities in the region will be stripped to vote. In truth, already on Saturday, but more likely on Sunday when the polls close, it will be known how many of the 27 mayors running against the quorum will have exceeded 40 percent of voters who went to the polls.
ELECTORAL CARD
Anyone who no longer has stamps available on their electoral card or cannot find it can go to the electoral office of their municipality to have another issued. Better to avoid going at the last moment to avoid running into long queues.
THE PARTY
Fratelli d’Italia closed its electoral campaign last night in Piazzetta Municipio with the party’s sole candidate for the entire region, Alessandro Ciriani.
