The Imola council gives the green light to the restoration work on the building that houses the ‘Il Sorriso’ community, a structure owned by the Piazza Matteotti institution in the municipality of Fontanelice, seriously damaged by last year’s flood due to a landslide.

The amount of the works, financed by the commissioner structure led by General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, is estimated at approximately 120 thousand euros. Of these, over 80 thousand euros will go to the partial demolition of the building called ‘ex furnace’ and the partial restoration of the walls of the ‘Il Sorriso’ community. Another 40 thousand will instead be used for the construction of a new road route to allow access to the building called ‘Il Casoncello’, following excavation and regularization of the route along the hillside, formation of a mountain ditch, construction of wells and sewers for water conveyance, supply and installation of materials inert.

The structure has already been the scene of some renovation work in recent months. Overall, Commissioner Figliuolo has in fact allocated 200 thousand euros, allocating them to the coffers of the Municipality of Imola, for the Il Sorriso community.

At the beginning of the year, given the “serious situation of danger to people’s safety”, mayor Gabriele Meluzzi had declared the structure (a residential therapeutic community for the recovery of individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction pathologies) off-limits as it is at risk of collapse.

A first series of interventions had been planned, for a total of approximately 35 thousand euros, relating to the construction of drainage ditches upstream and downstream of the landslide and the construction of wells, sewers and everything necessary for the conveyance of water. However, a technical reconnaissance completed last February confirmed the “persistence of the risk situation due to the imminent and concrete danger of prejudice to public and private safety and to compromising the integrity of the access infrastructures to the structures of the complex – they reconstruct from Municipality of Imola – such that it cannot be used in complete safety, therefore it is necessary to start the execution of the works indicated above as a matter of urgency.
