“Farms can no longer wait”
“On May 13th we requested an urgent hearing of the Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Emanuele Imprudente and the convening of a session of the Third Regional Council Commission to address the serious situation of the Abruzzo wine sector, hit a year ago by extensive damage to the harvested due to the exceptional rains and the consequent downy mildew disease” regional councilors Dino Pepe and Silvio Paolucci wrote in a note.
“The serious delay in economic interventions to support the damage suffered by agricultural companies is definitively bringing a strategic sector for Abruzzo to its knees.
The concern is so great that 50 Mayors have signed an appeal for the Region to take an active part with the national Government to have suitable economic tools to avoid the closure of thousands of companies” add the two Dem Councillors.
“Financial problems, in fact, compromise the possibility for many companies of being able to pay current expenses, purchase agricultural fuel and plant protection products, as reported by trade associations, with the consequent indebtedness and the need for layoffs, increasingly exacerbating the situation” continue Paolucci and Pepe.
“These are the reasons that push us to request, with even greater urgency, a hearing of the stakeholders and of the Imprudente Councilor in the Third Regional Commission, to listen to those directly interested and urge the national and regional governments to speed up the compensation promised but never arrived and to implement every useful tool for the protection and support of the companies involved” conclude Silvio Paolucci and Dino Pepe.
