Riboni (Last Generation): “But what a change of strategy, we will continue to block the roads”

Aldo Riboni, of Ultima Generazione, says this in the aftermath of the blitz, blocked by security cordons, in the midst of the celebrations of last June 2nd with the Head of State. As a guest on Newzgen, the program produced by Alanews, broadcast on YouTube and Twitch, one of the most present and well-known activists in the news of the movement explained the reasons for the continuous protests: “It is our duty to protest – said Riboni –.

The State does not do its job, it does not protect the lives of citizens in the face of a climate and social catastrophe. It’s not just this government, the Executive has been traveling in the opposite direction for 20-30 years; the parties are adversaries because they lead us to social collapse, we want citizens to be able to decide, not politics”. And again: “We ask for 20 billion to be allocated to flood victims or companies in difficulty due to climate events; and, then, we ask for more democracy, direct democracy, to be able to decide about our future and our dignity”.

To Andrea Eusebio and Alessandra D’Ippolito who asked him about a possible change in communication strategy on the part of Ultima Generazione, Riboni was keen to clarify the position of the eco-activists: “It’s a theory supported by journalists who have seen us dialogue with the politicians under the party headquarters, but there is no change in strategy: we will continue to block the roads and seek dialogue, because they are sides of the same coin. If we have been able to talk lately it is because we have created a disturbance, the more people we disturb, the more they will have to listen to us.”

“The protest – concluded Riboni – is a profoundly democratic act: the fact of being together with others makes you overcome your fears, you are stating the truth, it is really beautiful. The police are bureaucrats with guns, they often detain us in police stations just to fill out pages and pages of documents”
