TRENT. From the bitterness for a finish line that was just a hair’s breadth from the immense joy of having achieved it, it’s worth saying, in extra time. Within seven days.
In front of the public on special occasions (as can be seen from the photos kindly provided by Michele Gretter and Bar Sport Italia), with the upper part of the North stand of the “Briamasco” stadium sold out, MolvenoSpor celebrated the promotion in… Promotion.
The club born from the merger of Molveno and Spormaggiorewho have decided to join forces to create a new competitive reality, they beat Alta Valsugana 2 to 0 in the play-off between the runners-up in the two First Category groups, behind the winners, Avio and Borgo respectively.
If in group B the games had been settled for some time, with the Valsuganotti dominating the tournament far and wide and Alta Valsugana was able to conquer the second place, defending it from the attack of the Audace, in group A everything was decided just eight days ago.
Yes, because MolvenoSpor had arrived at the last day tied at the top with Avio and, as in any self-respecting thriller final, the 30th round pitted the two “queens” of the tournament against each other in what was a true grand final. The rest is history: the Lagarini win by a landslide (4-1) and gain the pass for the Promotion, but for the partnership led by Alessandro Sartori and Umberto Sandri there was still the appeal test, precisely the play-off against Alta Valsugana.
And it was a “real” playoff, in front of over 1,000 spectatorswith the two colorful fans challenging each other to the sound of chants and smoke bombs in the standsas well as a very large group of professionals who did not want to miss such an important event for provincial football.
MolvenoSpor prevailed 2-0, thanks to a brace scored in extra time by Riccardo Nicolussi and then the party started, which lasted until late at night on the Plateau.
“It’s a huge joy – comments coach Fabio Calliari, who took over from Andrea Scapin with 11 games remaining – and it is the right reward for a group that has had great mental strength, not only in the last week. We arrived at the direct clashes, concentrated in the last part of the regular season, fully in the running, making up ground on those in front of us and we were only missing for half an hour in the match against Avio. In recent months we have created a splendid alchemy and I am obviously very satisfied: the two presidents, Sartori and Sandri and the whole club deserve this achievement and now, after having enjoyed the moment and the result, it is already time to think about next season, given that we will have to face an extremely challenging championship like the Promotion one.”
And Molveno will certainly start again from mister Fabio Calliari, who achieved his fourth promotion from the First Category to the higher category, after those obtained at the helm of Monte Baldo, Baone and Benacense.
