On Saturday 25 May the activists, who were supposed to hold a course for anti-violence workers, found the gate open and covered in excrement: “In sixteen years something like this has never happened…”

On the day of transfeminist march from Pizza Vittorio to Piazza della Bocca della Verità organized on Saturday 25 May by the network «Not one less» – target of the protest «the government that opens the doors of the clinics to objectors and anti-abortionists» – the headquarters of the Women’s House was vandalized «Lucha y siesta» in via Lucio Sestio, in Tuscolano.

«In sixteen years nothing like this has ever happened…”

In the morning the gate was forced and the activists found the dirty lock of excrement with the full bag in front of the entrance. The parade poster was torn scheduled for the afternoon to contest the executive’s green light for pro-life associations to enter the clinics. The image of the defacement of the self-managed space was published on the Instagram profile, accompanied by a long post: «We invite everyone to take care of the spaces of safety and serenity that we have conquered and to share, if there are, threats and persecutory acts like this ». The blitz sparked a deep bewilderment, since «in sixteen years something like this had never happened to us: it seems to us to be a clear sign of how much the context and people have changed; therefore there are now those who consider it legitimate to vandalize a women’s home that deals with combating gender violence. We have been here for 16 years: behind that gate there is a lush garden and a house full of life. You understand for yourself what we do with your m…”.

The solidarity of Mayor Gualtieri

On X the message from the mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, in support of the House: «The acts of vandalism against the Lucha y Siesta headquarters are unacceptable. Rome is close to this important garrison of solidarity and welcome, always at the forefront in the defense of women’s rights. Our city is and will always be alongside women.” Words of closeness also from the president of the VIII Municipality, Amedeo Ciaccheri: «Instead of putting this reality in difficulty, the institutions should read the most worrying signs and defend it from attacks by those who want in every way to counter the paths of liberation and strengthening of the feminist networks in our city. On the side of Lucha y Siesta, it would be useful for the Lazio Region, which in recent years has put this very important reality in difficulty, to express its support and guarantee its serenity for the work it carries out in the city from now to the future”. The deputy of the Left Green Alliance also expressed his support for the anti-violence center, Filiberto Zaratti: «A hug of solidarity to the Lucha y Siesta activists after the vandalism episode against the premises that house the historic and tenacious Women’s House. We are with you, the democratic city is with you, we know that you will not be intimidated by any cowardice.”
