Regional councilor of the Democratic Party dies

Massimiliano Pescini, former mayor of San Casciano, died last night at just 49 years old. He was at the time a regional councilor of the Democratic Party and only a few months ago he discovered he had a tumor. Terrible news that hits politics at this time of the electoral campaign for the local elections.

“You left too quickly dear Massimiliano, friend and companion of so much commitment and many battles. Always the figure for us of balance, dialogue, competence and determination in achieving the objectives we set ourselves but so profoundly human as to try to involve everyone in the interest of the community. It’s a moment of deep pain for me, the reaction I feel is ‘it’s not right’. With you goes one of the best people in sharing this commitment. I mourn a friend and traveling companion who I will miss dearly, may the earth be light on you Massi”, the condolences of the President of the Region Eugenio Giani.

Mourning and pain also expressed by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella. “Great pain and immense regret for the premature death of Massimiliano Pescini. There are no words to express the heartbreaking pain for the death of a dear friend and a loyal colleague who leaves us”, the words of the mayor, on behalf of the city of Florence and the Metropolitan city.

“Always serving his country of origin and his land, he leaves a great void in all of us. I express my deepest personal condolences and those of the Municipality and the Metropolitan City to my partner Marina, to my family and friends, to the regional council and to the entire San Casciano community”, adds the mayor, who as a sign of mourning has ordered that the flags of Palazzo Medici Riccardi, seat of the metropolitan city, are put at half-mast.

“Massimiliano – Nardella recalls – represented the best of politics and institutions. Passionate and competent mayor, militant open to discussion and always, always close to people and their needs. A cultured man, kind and attentive to those around him, he had a quick irony with which he always highlighted the funny aspects of things. Hello Massimiliano, my unforgettable friend, we will all miss you.”

“Today no election campaign posts or anything else, just silence to remember and honor Massimiliano Pescini, a gentleman of politics, a respectable person, an excellent administrator who served his community to the end with intelligence, ability and sincere passion. Rest in peace Massi”, says Stefania Saccardi, candidate for mayor of Florence for Italia Viva.

“Massimiliano was a friend. Together we shared an important part of the road that I will never forget. One moment in particular united us deeply: the journey of memory with the school children in 2019.
In those places where the pain is tangible, I always have in mind the memory of a sensitive and precious person. Experiencing those moments together bonded us forever. In his life Massimiliano always fought for important battles with seriousness and dedication. His passing marks a sad day. For me and for our entire democratic community. I embrace the family with all my heart. Hi Massimiliano, I’ll miss you”, said the mayoral candidate of the Democratic Party and centre-left Sara Funaro on Facebook.

“Shocked by the death of our colleague Pescini. Our deepest condolences to the family. We would like to express our closeness to the family of regional councilor Massimiliano Pescini, who died at the age of just 49 due to a serious illness recently diagnosed. Terrible news that shocks us literally Pescini was a prepared politician and an affable person and we obviously want to extend our deepest condolences to all the regional councilors of the Democratic Party, led by the group leader Ceccarelli”, says Elena Meini, group leader in the regional council of the Democratic Party. Lega, also on behalf of the entire group.

The battles alongside the workers

“The news of Massimiliano Pescini’s passing is one of those that leaves you breathless, that dries up your saliva and makes your eyes swell. I met Massimiliano during the Laika affair, he was mayor of San Casciano. He didn’t give it a thought. moment to support the reasons of Laika workers and Fiom for the new plant. We occupied the council room where the urban planning variant was being discussed and the mayor intervened, bringing the reasons for work and development to that room in his emotion. Today over 800 workers work in Laika, at the time there were just over 190. That battle was a battle won by the workers’ struggle and by Massimiliano: a Mayor, a politician, a friend, a comrade.
Hello Massi”, this is how Daniele Calosi, historic leader of the Florentine Fiom Cigl, remembers him on Facebook.

Massimiliano Pescini was vice president of the Pd group in the Region. He was elected in 2020 in the Florence 2 constituency with over 10,000 preferences (10,512 to be exact), being the most voted in that constituency. Fiammetta Capirossi will now take his place in the regional council.
