CAMUGNANO (Bologna)
The first steps for emptying the Enel Green Power hydroelectric plant in Bargi di Camugnano (Bologna) are starting. Yesterday, in fact, the firefighters began to set up the external construction site with the equipment for the immersion of the seven divers who will have to enter and close by hand the bulkhead which remained stuck half-open after the tragic explosion which, on 9 April, cost the seven workers’ lives and caused the injury of as many of their colleagues: all of them were engaged in testing a generation group consisting of a turbine and alternator. Since that day, the plant has been flooded. The water gradually rose inside the system until it almost reached the level of the lake itself. It was the moment the firefighters had been waiting for: with the water inside the system about one meter to 80 centimeters lower than the lake, the pressure is adequate to allow their intervention. After which it will be possible to begin emptying the plant, almost certainly using the modular ‘train’ system which will allow the extraction of the water with simultaneous filtering and immediate reintroduction into the lake. The objective is to finish by the end of July, then the inspection by the super pool of experts appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office will begin. The investigation, for disaster, homicide and negligent injury, is currently being borne by unknown persons.
