MACERATA There are many memories that crowd the hearts of those who knew Hideaki Kawano. The pain of the sudden death of the 72-year-old of Japanese origins, who had lived in Macerata for years, is great for all those who had met him on their journey. «Anyone who has been lucky enough to meet Hideaki, even briefly, has certainly been able to meet a truly special person» says his journalist friend Luca Romagnoli.

The condolence

He had arrived from Hiroshima to Macerata in the late 1970s. «He – continues Romagnoli – said he was the son of the atomic bomb as he was born in the aftermath of the tragedy, so much so that he believed he was immune to diseases because he jokingly said he was a little radioactive». After arriving in Italy he enrolled at the University for Foreigners of Perugia and then at the Academy of Fine Arts where later, as an artist and professional, he was a teacher. But art also characterized him in cooking, a great passion of his: as a chef he had worked at Pozzo in Macerata and at Osteria San Nicola in Tolentino. However, all the inner richness that he was able to transmit to others did not go away with him. The 72-year-old was found lifeless on Thursday evening in his home in via Mozzi. An autopsy will take place on Monday to establish the causes of death which occurred a few days before the body was found, lying on the kitchen table. An illness was probably fatal to him.

Humanity

«An extraordinary artist and a man of unique humanity – adds Romagnoli -. From his smile and his words, almost whispered, his ancient and particular oriental origins were evident. His Japaneseness was immediately perceived and communicated by him in an unconscious and natural way. He was a talented and promising sculptor who was taken under the protective wing of Valeriano Trubbiani. He had a very particular personality. Very modest and reserved, as perhaps only orientals can be, he was always available. He was gifted with a very particular sense of humour, so much so that he had a notebook in which he wrote down all the mispronunciations that were made of his surname or name, so much so that we all pleasantly called him a Kabuano.”
