Yesterday, in Sardinia, fire raged with four fires in the regional territory. Among these, one required the aerial intervention of the Forestry Corps, once again highlighting the institutions’ inability to effectively prevent and manage environmental emergencies. The most significant fire occurred in the municipality of Pimentel, in the “Crabili” area. The suppression of the flames was coordinated by the staff of the Senorbì Forestry Corps Station, assisted by the helicopter from the CFVA base in Villasalto.

A team of volunteers from the Sant’Isidoro di Senorbì association intervened on the ground, while the helicopter concluded the firefighting operations at 6.30pm. Despite the timely intervention, the poor preparation and limited resources deployed by the authorities remain evident. Forestry patrol personnel are still on site to clear and secure the perimeter, a clear sign of the inadequacy of the initial response. These events underline the urgency of reviewing fire prevention and management strategies in Sardinia. It is unacceptable that, in 2024, we still find ourselves facing emergencies with insufficient means and resources, putting local territories and communities at risk. We need a decisive and immediate change of direction to guarantee the safety and protection of our environment.
