TRIESTE – The regional councilor for Education, Alessia Rosolen, has no doubts. It was an ambush, “carried out by an association – she explains – which has nothing institutional about it, not recognized as an interlocutor and not taking sides”. Obviously the “side” is on the opposite side from which the councilor who politically represents Brothers of Italy militates. Yesterday the bubble broke out, with a note sent by the non-profit refugee office which reported, although without ever saying it openly, an “act of censorship” by the Fvg Region on an initiative of the ICS, the Italian Solidarity Consortium, the the association targeted by Rosolen.

THE FACTS
In practice, the management of the Italo Svevo middle school in Trieste had organized a meeting on migrants and had invited an ICS aid worker who had decided to bring a migrant to class to tell his story to speak to the seventh and eighth graders. . Yesterday the school decided to block the initiative. Why? The non-profit refugee office responded. «The decision of the regional council of Friuli Venezia Giulia to request an in-depth analysis from the regional school office regarding the meeting scheduled at the Italo Svevo Institute on the topic of migration, arouses confusion and concern. This intervention, in fact, as reported in the note from the Regional Council, resulted in the cancellation of the meeting by the school itself. This meeting involved listening directly to testimonies presented by those who are personally involved in migratory paths and contemplated the possibility of providing data, experiences and reports from experts on migration and racism”.

THE REPLICA
The response from councilor Alessia Rosolen was not long in coming. «I believe it is sacrosanct to correctly put the cards on the table starting from two fundamental points. The first: the undersigned did not ask the regional school office for any further information on the school’s initiative. Secondly, neither on this occasion, nor on others, have I ever exercised censorship towards initiatives of any kind. The facts – continues the representative of the Fedriga council – went in a very different way. When I saw the initiative that the school management had put in place, together with my Security colleague (Pierpaolo Roberti, Lega ed.) we wrote a public, political note, which I claim. Why – we asked ourselves – had no institution been invited to that meeting? I’m not saying the Region, but the Police Headquarters, the Prefecture, Caritas, all interlocutors on the migrant issue front. Furthermore – charge – why have the meeting with 12, 13 year old children managed by an aligned, militant and unrecognized association?

And then why invite a migrant, without letting people know who he was, a stranger who could have been anyone. Here, this is what we did. A public note reiterating a political position. Obviously we didn’t send anything to the regional school office. I would add that several parents of the children and some teachers from the same institute had also requested the note. Yesterday – concludes the councilor – we received a letter from the Svevo middle school in which it was said that the auditorium would be occupied in the afternoon by rehearsals for the performance the following day and therefore the meeting on migration would not be held. This is why I believe everything was already prepared.”
