Auto – Tamburini also wins at Misano: “We are aiming for the continental title”

Tamburini’s Maserati

Misano (Rn) Last weekend the GT2 European Series championship stopped in Italy, in Misano, for the second round of the season. And Carlo Tamburini managed to impose himself again in race 1 as happened a month ago at Paul Ricard. The young driver from Mantua, together with his teammate Leonardo Gorini, managed to impose himself in Saturday’s race, starting from third place. «On Friday we struggled to find the right set up – comments Carlo – While in the second heat we managed to find the right balance, changing set-up and consequently solving the understeer problem. On Saturday, during qualifying, the good feelings of the second free practice session were confirmed as certainties: in the first qualifying, Leonardo placed third, while I won pole in the second by just two thousandths.” «Saturday evening – continues the nineteen year old – in race 1 the objective was to do a clean race and so it was: good pace and no risks. We managed to recover two positions thanks to the quick and smooth driver change.” In race 2, however, he achieved a good second place. «On Sunday morning I started from pole, maintaining first position until the pit stop. The KTM was slightly faster than us, but all in all I enjoyed the battle because we were all close. It’s a shame for the 10 seconds we had to serve in the pits for winning race 1, because without those we would have won for sure. But we’re happy to take second place home because it was the best we could do without any twists and turns.” After two races, the team classification sees the two Maserati bearers ahead of everyone with 80 points: one more than their rivals KTM. «We are focused on maximizing every result – he says enthusiastically –. We want to fight for the championship; so we will have to be good at not committing any type of error. I’m happy because with each race we make progress and this leaves us hopeful for the future. I didn’t expect this exploit. I’m gaining experience and learning to handle pressure. I immediately understood that this was an ambitious project, but it wasn’t at all obvious to turn it into reality immediately.”
