inauguration of the Integrated Sports Center in September

The mayor of Monfalcone, Anna Maria Cisint, met the Minister for Disability, Alessandra Locatelli, on Friday, to whom he illustrated the project and the progress of the interventions for the construction of the Integrated Sports Centre, agreeing on the presence of the minister on the occasion of the conclusion of the work.

Work continues according to schedule for the construction of the first “barrier-free” gym in the region, born from the idea of the municipal administration of Monfalcone to promote the practice of sport for all, with particular measures to allow its use also by people with disability.

The general project involves the elimination of architectural barriers in the external space of the building called the “former covered market” in via della Resistenza, the creation of spaces for sporting activities, a reception area for the public with an adjoining office, changing rooms with toilets and shower room for athletes and instructors, a first aid room, toilets for staff and visitors and a technical room for systems.

“I had the opportunity to personally illustrate to Minister Locatelli the project of the Integrated Sports Center which represents a unique example in the region which makes us very proud because all the environments have been studied with the utmost attention to facilitate easy use by all users and to allow athletes, with and without disabilities, to carry out physical activities – noted the mayor of Monfalcone, Anna Maria Cisint.

The project was also welcomed with satisfaction by the Minister, who will be present for the conclusion of the works and the inauguration of the Centre, scheduled for September.

“I greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and competence with which in Monfalcone the issues related to the integration of people with disabilities in the city community are addressed and the Integrated Sports Center represents an important project because sport represents a fundamental vehicle for promoting an independent life of people with disabilities” – the comment of Minister Locatelli.

Since its initial phase, in 2019, the project has undergone some changes to respond in a more functional way to the needs of all athletes, to improve the passive energy performance of the building and to adapt the fire prevention system to updated regulations. This administration’s constant attention towards people with disabilities was also recognized by the organizers of the Handbike Giro d’Italia, who chose to bring the second stage to Monfalcone precisely because ours is a city that promotes the sociality of people with disabilities, including through the removal of architectural barriers from streets and public buildings.

There is a big difference, in fact, between designing by “eliminating barriers” and designing “without barriers”, which means creating urban spaces and environments that can be used by everyone, pursuing the objective of extended usability that encourages inclusion and relationships. among the people. An ambitious project, created to meet the needs of all athletes, without exception.”

The gym, in addition to ensuring adequate space for free body activities, such as gymnastics or dance, will be equipped for basketball, five-a-side football, goalball, bowls, torball and archery. The property includes a circular body, within which martial arts and climbing activities can be practiced.

The building will be equipped with the plant equipment for the correct functioning of the sports area according to current regulations and, specifically, since the beginning of the works on Lot 1 – entrusted to the company Impianti Civili e Industriali SCARL – the electrical systems have already been installed , lighting and emergency systems, and high energy efficiency air conditioning, air extraction and exchange, fire prevention, evacuation, communication and smoke and heat detection systems; interventions carried out, under subcontracting, by the Tecnoimpianti Erregi di Gerardo Rossi & C. SNC companies. and Impianti SRL

At the same time, the company Isolgess Srl carried out the installation of plasterboard walls, false walls and false ceilings made with the construction system called “box in box”, while the company Pavi Work Srls will create the screeds in the coming weeks sand and cement background.

Given that the original subfloor and floor of the building did not guarantee a perfect consistency of the layer, they were demolished to allow insulation and subsequent flooring using different materials, with the aim of guaranteeing maximum functionality of the different environments . Furthermore, all the differences between flat, inclined and vertical surfaces will be highlighted with a color contrast between the finishes and will be walkable and with characteristics that allow the mobility of people with reduced or impaired motor skills. The routes will present a simple and regular course in relation to the main access routes and will be free of bottlenecks, furniture and obstacles of any kind.

The works for the construction of the Integrated Sports Centre, divided into two functional lots, will be completed by September 2024.

The first lot involves the preparation of changing rooms, a small gym, a reception, service spaces, a new heating system and other special systems and is financed with 628,000 euros from the Municipality of Monfalcone, while the second lot is functional to the completion of all the construction, plant and finishing works on the entire building, for a total cost of 1,600,000 euros, of which 1,528,000 euros financed by PNRR contributions and 72,000 euros of Municipality funds.
