Dramatic accident at work yesterday morning in Ischia, a construction worker lost a leg. According to an initial reconstruction, the man who was working with a bobcat-type mechanical vehicle was the victim of a very serious accident on an island construction site located in the municipality of Ischia and where ordinary and extraordinary maintenance activities were underway. The cause and dynamics of the accident remain unclear. The victim was immediately rescued and urgently transported to the Rizzoli hospital in Lacco Ameno. Here he underwent initial medical treatment by the doctors who, taking note of the serious clinical picture, subjected him to a very delicate surgical operation. The worker unfortunately suffered the amputation of his right leg and remains hospitalized under observation at the Lacco hospital. The investigations are entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Ischia Company, led by Captain Tiziano Laganà, who immediately opened an investigation to understand with incontrovertible certainty what happened.
According to an initial reconstruction of the facts, the man, a 42-year-old, originally from Serrara Fontana, but resident in Barano, while he was carrying out the movement of a load with other workers, ended up under the vehicle which slipped, according to a reconstruction of the facts however still to be clarified, while the cockpit where the controls are located was already freed. It is not clear whether the young man was driving. According to another reconstruction, however, the man, during the manoeuvres, ended up with his leg in the concrete mixer which dragged him with it causing very serious injuries, also compromised by the material that was being mixed and worked. According to a further picture which also appears to be the most credible, the man remained stuck in the mixing bucket of the caterpillar / bobcat which was in operation, while he was carrying out road resurfacing work inside the condominium in via Mazzella 53. On 42 enne would have slipped into the mixer after getting off the bobcat and ended up getting stuck in the machine’s gears. Then the race against time to avoid the worst. Rescued by his colleagues he was extracted from the mixer and was entrusted to 118 and then urgently transferred under code red to the Rizzoli hospital in Lacco Ameno where he is still hospitalized in intensive care.
In the meantime, the construction site area of approximately 190 square meters and the various work vehicles have been seized, as well as summary information has been obtained from the various interested people and the work colleagues with the construction site manager, the technicians and the owner of the company for which the worker worked. In the following days, further investigations will be carried out to identify individual responsibilities. the soldiers of Captain Tiziano Laganà took steps to seize the vehicle, the area where the dramatic accident occurred located in Ischia in via Michele Mazzella and interviewed some people who were on the scene at the time of the accident. No particular irregularities were found in the equipment which, however, leaves a wide discretion in use even in the use of protective devices.
