Poggio Renatico, garage is on fire, fear for La Nuova Ferrara cylinders

Poggio Renatico «We risked blowing up. A heartfelt thank you to the firefighters and the local police.” A fire broke out yesterday in the early afternoon in the garage of a house in via Canali, in Poggio Renatico. Inside were several gas cylinders and the fear that they might explode kept the entire neighborhood (and beyond) in suspense.

The flames broke out around 2.30pm, most likely due to a short circuit. The garage is adjacent to a house where an elderly woman lives. Luckily, someone noticed the smoke and immediately called the firefighters. The flames engulfed everything within a few minutes and when the firefighters arrived on site together with a local police patrol, they saw that there were also gas cylinders inside the garage. At that point, as a precaution, all people were removed and the area fenced off with red and white tape to ensure safety.

The firefighters with three teams arriving from Ferrara managed to put out the fire in a short time but above all to take out the cylinders, which remained intact. The operations continued for some time, also because there were small outbreaks left considering the type and quantity of stuff inside, all of which was destroyed.

When the situation returned more or less to normal due to the great fear and agitation, the lady who owned the house fell ill. The ambulance also arrived in Via Canali and the commotion increased in the streets of the town. The doctors, after having seen that her condition was good, still preferred to take her to hospital for checks, but also to give her greater comfort and to try to reassure her in some way. The causes of the fire are not yet known, but according to an initial reconstruction it seems that it all started from a short circuit.
