The wave of bad weather in the Modena area required the intervention of the firefighters due to the flooding of streets and cellars and the fall of trees. The firefighters also had to put out a fire that broke out in Formigine due to a fire caused by lightning in an electrical substation.

Following the wave of bad weather which is affecting all the regions of the North and which, in the evening between yesterday and today, Wednesday 15 May, also affected Modena and the province, the firefighters were called to carry out several interventions after a strong storm that hit the province of Emilia-Romagna from 7pm. The requests mainly arrived from the south-eastern area of ​​Modena. Three teams were employed until late in the evening to carry out a dozen interventions including clearing the road of fallen trees that were occupying public land and operations in flooded garages and cellars.

Some interventions were carried out due to wind and rain in various areas of the Modena area. The city, as well as the province, were also hit by hail. Torrential rain and storms caused considerable damage and inconvenience to the population. The fields were also damaged.

The requests for help from the firefighters came mainly from the south-east area of ​​Modena. Three rescue teams intervened to resolve problems such as falling trees which prevented traffic on the roads, resulting in problems with traffic and access to public spaces. This was stated by Coldiretti, who specified that the effects of the bad weather are serious and concern the cultivation of wheat and barley as well as orchards and vineyards. According to Coldiretti Modena, a hailstorm of this magnitude in mid-May is an anomalous phenomenon with serious repercussions on agriculture.

There were inconveniences also registered in Spilamberto and Formigine, where instead a fire broke out in an electrical substation which was struck by lightning in the evening between 13 and 14 May. The intervention of the firefighters was also requested due to the hail in Campogalliano.

The bad weather also hit the Novara area with heavy rains that continued through the night. There were various complications in the Piedmontese city, with numerous flooding on the road network near the manholes which were struggling to dispose of the large quantities of water. In a small park outside the historic centre, some landslides occurred which blocked the pedestrian passage, which was then closed to restore safety. The two waterways that flow on the edges of the city are under control: the Terdoppio in particular is being monitored, very close to the warning level. Rainfall accumulations in the upper Novara area reached 100 mm and up to 140 mm on the lakes.
