Central A2a, meeting in the Prefecture. CGIL, CISL and UIL: “concern for the future”

There remains, on the trade union side, a state of strong concern for the future of the A2a plant in San Filippo del Mela even after the meeting held this morning in Messina, in the Prefecture, in the presence of the top management of the company and Sicindustria.

The table was convened by the Prefect of Messina, Dr. Cosima Di Stani at the request of Cgil, Cisl and Uil with the categories of metalworkers Fim, Fiom and Uilm and of electricians Flaei, Filtcem and Uiltec to have clarity on the company’s investments necessary to accompany the Messina site to the new production model.

«For us it is essential to know what the steps of the social transition will be, that of the workers – say the general secretaries of CGIL, CISL and UIL, Pietro Patti, Antonino Alibrandi and Ivan Tripodi – we want to know the plans for maintaining current employment, those for the retraining of staff and the relaunch programs which mean a certain future for the site. The concern is not only for A2a employees but the stability of the related industries and the economic and social fabric of the entire territory is at stake.”

The unions asked for clarity and transparency on A2a’s projects: «Within the plant there are projects for plants such as that of plastics or forsu which need to complete the authorization process and others that represent an investment such as that on fuel engines gas. But there is always a big question mark on this, as there is no clarity and there is no in-depth analysis of the details of the process and the economic part. Therefore, given the very worrying situation, we have asked for a permanent table that addresses the issue in detail, examining the impact on investments and employment and that broadens the reasoning to the entire industrial area of Giammoro because the stability of the business depends on A2a. industrial sector of companies operating in related industries. For this reason, there remains a state of strong concern regarding the maintenance of current employment levels but also and above all for the future of the production of the plant around which the issue of renewable energy and the waste cycle also revolves”.

For CGIL, CISL and UIL «it means addressing the burning issue with the language of clarity, knowing full well that it is not admissible to question employment and work. It is therefore useful. an overall vision for the development and future of the territory”.
