HE DRAGGED THE ARENA She finished seventh. We hoped for it until the end, after that crazy performance on stage (“I really think that mine Boredom it’s not boring at all”, Angelina joked on social media). We hoped for victory because until the last count of the votes of the national juries Angelina Mango was there swaying on the podium and as Mara Maionchi said live «We can still hope». Instead, the public votes messed up the cards, and the winner of Sanremo finished in seventh place. The victory (well deserved, it must be said) goes to the Swiss Nemo with his The code, followed in second place by Baby Lasagna for Croatia, and by Ukrainian contestants Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil in third. In addition to the ovation from the arena audience, however, Angelina received a truly precious recognition: “I will always root for you”, wrote Laura Pausini on Instagram in a post full of affection and esteem.

THE TWEET WENT VIRAL The final begins with a tribute to Abba’s victory at the 1974 Eurovision and then presents the various competing artists, with Angelina Mango – very elegant in black – proud to wave the Italian flag. And a small case opens on social media, due to a tweet that comments on the singer’s colors (the black of the dress, the red, white and green of the tricolor) and gives a forced interpretation to say the least: «Angelina Mango she wears a black dress and runs with the Italian flag, also transforming into the Palestinian flag. Queen, she knew what she was doing! The viral comment quickly exceeded one million views.

THE SPOILER DIDN’T HELP For some commentators, Angelina’s chances of winning were reduced after the RAI spoiler which on the eve of the final accidentally revealed the Italian televoting data: Israel in the lead with 39.3% and the Netherlands (then ousted for bad behavior by singer Joost Klein) second with 7.3%. A misstep that put our country in a bad light due to the preferences for the Jewish state, read in an anti-Palestinian key, despite the fact that the numbers were absolutely small: just 11 thousand votes in total, of which therefore just over 4000 for Israel.

WHO IS THE WINNER The winner of the Eurovision song contest 2024 is the Swiss Nemo Mettler, 25 years old. The Swiss artist triumphed on stage with The Code, a beautiful piece that combines opera, rap and drum’n’bass which invites the discovery of the true self. The singer, who defines himself as non-binary (does not recognize himself as male/female), has already been defined as “the new Mika” for his ability to use his voice in multiple registers and perform in an enthralling way. His performance was rewarded by the vast majority of national juries. At the end of the race, overwhelmed by emotion, he even broke the prize, a crystal microphone, injuring his thumb (“They gave me another one, so now technically I have two…”). Born in 1999 in Biel, a small bilingual town in Switzerland, Nemo cultivated a passion for music from a very young age: he plays violin, piano and drums.
