One person died and another was injured in the head-on collision between two cars that occurred this morning in the Limina tunnel, on the Ionian-Tyrrhenian main road 682. The accident occurred right in the center of the tunnel, 3.4 kilometers long, in the municipality of Mammola, and involved a Jeep Cherokee and an Opel Mokka which collided head-on for reasons currently under investigation.
In addition to the 118 paramedics, officers from the Siderno traffic police intervened on site to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident, and the firefighters from Polistena. The state road was closed to traffic to allow for rescue operations and the removal of vehicles.
The Limina tunnel is currently undergoing maintenance work which takes place at night when the structure is closed. During the day, however, the artery is passable normally.
This morning it happened again on the Ionian-Tirreno another road accident.
