Explosion caused by a possible gas leak inside a ground floor apartment, an Indian citizen suffers serious burns in the upper part of his body and is rushed to hospital in Reggio Calabria

Reggio Calabria experienced a moment of emergency yesterday evening, when a violent explosion shook the Barre district. The flames, generated by the explosion, required the immediate intervention of the firefighters, who rushed to the scene with two vehicles to put out the fire.

The epicenter of the tragic event was identified in a ground floor house located in via Verdirame. According to initial analyzes conducted by experts, it appears that the explosion was caused by a gas leak inside one of the rooms of the apartment. Fortunately, the only occupant of the house at the time of the explosion, a citizen of Indian nationality, managed to escape to safety, albeit with serious burns to the upper part of his body.

The medical staff intervened promptly, providing first aid to the injured man, before urgently transporting him to the large metropolitan hospital of Reggio Calabria to receive the necessary care.

Initial investigations seem to indicate that the gas leak was caused by a possible leak from a cylinder used for culinary purposes. Investigators rule out that the explosion was caused directly by the cylinder itself, since in that case the damage could have been much more extensive and serious.

At the moment, the competent authorities are deepening their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the accident and ensure the safety of the affected area.
