Steve Albini has died. The Shellac guitarist and producer suffered a heart attack while he was in his Electrical Audio recording studio. He was 61 years old.

Steve Albini, according to what was confirmed by the staff of his recording studio Electronic Audio a Pitchfork, he died of a heart attack last night, Tuesday 7 April, in Chicago, in his studio. The news comes just over a week after the release of Shellac’s new album, To All Trains, after more than 10 years, scheduled for May 17th. The career of Steve Albini, guitarist and record producer
Born in California, raised in Montana, Steve Albini began his career playing in punk bands before attending Northwestern University. He formed his first musical project, Big Blackand released the Lungs EP in 1981. with Santiago Durango and the bass player Jeff Pezzatti they released a series of EPs, then the debut album, Atomizer. They broke up in 1987. He formed the band Rapeman, but it was short-lived. He therefore decided to dedicate himself to production and began collaborating with i Pixies. He helped launch the alternative rock revolution with Pink Surfer. Steve Albini also produced a song by 24 Grana, The same boat, In utero of the Nirvana, Rid of me by Pj Harvey, Pod by The Breeders, Things We Lost in the Fire by Low. He was part of the band Shellaca group formed in Chicago in ’92 from the collaboration between Albini and drummer Todd Trainer, who was then joined by bassist Bob Weston.
