The simulation, created with a supercomputer, begins with the camera positioned almost 640 million kilometers away.

NASA showed what would happen if a person fell into a black hole through an immersive graphic representation produced by a supercomputers and shared this Monday on the YouTube channel. In a statement, the American space agency explained that, as the camera gets closer to the black hole, reaching speeds increasingly closer to that of light, the brightness of the accretion disk and the stars in the background is consequently amplified in a mode that increases the intensity of the sound of an approaching race car.

The video begins with the camera positioned over four hundred million kilometers away and the black hole rapidly filling the view. The black hole disk, photon rings and the night sky become more and more distorted and even form multiple images as its light passes through increasingly distorted spacetime. “Once the camera crosses the horizon, its devastating destruction occurs in just 12.8 seconds.”, said Jeremy Schnittman, an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, who created the simulation. “From there there are only 128,000 kilometers to the singularity. This final leg of the journey is over in the blink of an eye”he added.
