Genoa, 7 May 2024 – The pink caravan: Wednesday 8 May on Tour of Italy it touches Liguria and Tuscany with the Genoa-Lucca stage, 178 kilometers long.

The Giro starts from the Ligurian capital and crosses an area rich in history in the south of the region. There will be a spectacular transit over the Bracco Pass, then Borghetto Vara, Ceparana, Luni. A spectacular entry into Tuscany, then Carrara, Capezzano Pianore, the climb of Montemagno and the arrival to be experienced in Lucca. In a stage fully suitable for sprinters.

The next day, Thursday 9 May, the all-Tuscan stage Torre del Lago Puccini-Rapolano Terme, 180 kilometers long, the sixth. From Torre del Lago you enter the province of Pisa, then Volterra and then the province of Siena, with passages also on the dirt road. A sort of mini-Strade Bianche. As regards Wednesday’s stage from Genoa to Lucca, here are the passages and prohibitions.

Genoa-Lucca

TO Borghetto Vara starting from 12.30 pm the Aurelia state road will be closed to traffic from the border with Carrodano to the border with Beverino with reopening expected around 3.40-3.50 pm. The passage is expected between 3pm and 3.20pm. Alternative roads via the A12 motorway and the Val di Vara state road 566.

TO Santo Stefano Magra Cisa SS 62 will be closed from 1pm to 4pm.

TO Bolano the race route involves via Genova, via Romana and via Cisa. Transit is expected at approximately 3.30 pm and vehicular traffic on the roads affected by the race route will be suspended two and a half hours in advance, therefore starting from approximately 1 pm. The Municipality requests that travel be limited during the period of closure of the roads affected by the competition. From Bolano, Montebello and more generally from the entire hilly area of ​​the municipal territory it will not be possible to access Ceparana, during the period of suspension of traffic specified above, and the only route allowed to leave the municipal territory will be for Podenzana-Aulla. On the municipal roads: Via Radio, Via Fiume, Via Beghillo, Via Cisa (Loc. Giarizzo) vehicular circulation is permitted only when entering Via Italia passing through the one-way street of Via Radio.

TO Sarzana Arranged for the early exit of students from Sarzana schools of all levels by 12.15pm. As regards traffic and vehicular parking, a parking ban has been imposed, with the removal of vehicles on both sides of the road, from 10am until the race has completely passed through these streets: – Via Cisa, from the intersection between Via Cisa variant up to the intersection with Via Dante Alighieri; – Via Luigi Neri from the intersection of Viale Mazzini with Via L/Neri and opening of the Porta Romana gate; – Via Luigi Neri from the intersection of P.zza Garibaldi to the intersection with Via San Bartolomeo; -Via Aurelia on the Pisa side from the Villa Ollandini roundabout to the intersection with the Via Variante Aurelia. – ban on parking in Piazza San Giorgio both in the paid and loading/unloading stalls. The ordinance also establishes the interruption of vehicular traffic on the routes that intersect the race route within the municipal territory of competence: this is of via Cisa, Via Porta Parma, Via Sobborgo Spina, Piazza San Giorgio, Via Sobborgo Emiliano, Via Luigi Neri, Viale Mazzini and Via Aurelia Lato Pisa. All vehicles are prohibited from circulating on the aforementioned roads starting from two hours and thirty minutes before the passage of the competitors, scheduled for 3.37 pm, calculated according to the fastest average shown on the time table and will end no later than 10 minutes after the passage of the vehicle bearing the mobile “end of cycling race” sign.

TO Carrara Road traffic will be suspended starting two and a half hours before the passage of the cycling caravan, scheduled for 4pm. For reasons of protection of public safety, the temporary suspension of traffic will be ordered along the sections of municipal roads where the route takes place of the race, from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm, and in any case until the mobile end of race sign has passed, as indicated in the ordinance establishing a transit ban for all vehicles along the Aurelia state road. Following the changes to traffic, for Wednesday 8 May, the Municipality has decided to bring forward to 12 the closing of all city schools of all levels, the Academy of Fine Arts and all educational services, including the nursery schools and the Magic Green at Padula.

The ban on transit of a significant stretch of the SS1 Aurelia, which intersects with the road axis of Viale XX Settembre and with other important city roads that connect the upstream area with the seaside area, could create significant inconvenience to road traffic and, consequently, also to the flow of students and school staff leaving schools.

TO Mass parking and transit bans along the Aurelia and the converging roads valid approximately from 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm in consideration of the passage of the ‘pink race’ expected around 4 pm. The closure of all city schools is also ordered to 12. On May 8th, Piazza Aranci hosts the Green fun village from 9am to 4.30pm with collateral events to the E-Bike Experience.

TO Mountainous parking ban with forced removal from 12pm to 4.30pm on the Aurelia (ex Via Garbuio) from the border with the municipality of Massa to the border with the municipality of Pietrasanta on both sides for all vehicles in general. Prohibition of transit from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm on the Aurelia from the border with Massa to the border with Pietrasanta and prohibition on entering the same from all confluent arteries (VC Sforza, Via Capannaccia, Via Debbia Nuova, Via Padreterno, Via Debbia Vecchia, Via Osteriaccia, Via Castagneta, Via Acqualunga, Via Aulla, Via Roma, Viale Marina, Via Stadio, Via Piedimonte, Via Romana Est, Rotonda Coimpre) to all vehicles in general and pedestrians.

The ‘Pink Caravan’ will arrive in the afternoon approximately between 4.15pm and 4.40pm: from Montignoso, the platoon will pass the Avis roundabout to continue along via Marconi, cross piazza Matteotti and go down via Oberdan, up to piazza Carducci; then via Sauro and via Garibaldi-Sarzanese. Wednesday, on the Aurelia (between the Montignoso border and including via Avis), in via Marconi (between via Avis and piazza Matteotti), piazza Matteotti (between via Marconi and the junction of via Oberdan, above the flowerbed in the center ), via Oberdan, piazza Carducci, piazza della Repubblica (in the external part, between piazza Carducci and the junction with via Sauro), via Garibaldi (via Sauro-via Valdicastello section) and via Sarzanese (between via Valdicastello and the border with Camaiore ) there will be a ban on parking with forced removal from 10am and transit from 1.30pm for all vehicles, except those used for police service or authorized by the organisation. Transit and parking will remain possible in the internal part of Piazza Matteotti, between the flowerbed and the town hall and, in Piazza della Repubblica, in the parking area in front of the post office. The measures will remain in force until 5pm or until the sporting competition has completely passed. During the period of suspension of traffic, pedestrians will also be prohibited from crossing the road.

To facilitate access and exit from the historic center through Via Martiri di S.Anna and the Provinciale Vallecchia, a temporary two-way traffic system regulated by a mobile traffic light system will be established on the stretch of Via Capriglia between Via Martiri di S.Anna and Piazza Statuto; Furthermore, to facilitate movement within the limited traffic zone of the historic centre, the functionality of gates 1 and 3, located in Piazza Statuto and Via Sant’Agostino respectively, will be suspended from 1pm to 6pm.

The early exit from schools has also been arranged by union order: for nurseries and nursery schools at 12.30, with meal at 11.45 and, where applicable, school transport service one way only; for primary school students, lunch is suspended and leave is at 12pm for those who use the school bus (which travels to and fro) and at 12.30pm for the others; at lower secondary schools, bell at 12.40 with guaranteed school transport there and back; finally, for secondary schools, lessons will end at 12.30.

TO Camaiore passage expected around 4.15-4.30 pm. The group will arrive from Pietrasanta, traveling along the Sarzanese road up to the roundabout with Via Italica where it will turn towards the mountains to continue up to the Amicizia roundabout. Then continue on via Vecchia Provinciale to Frati, via Stadio and viale Oberdan. And again: via Bellosguardo, via Provinciale Est, the Montemagno climb up to Valpromaro towards Lucca. Traffic stops along the entire route from two and a half hours before the arrival of the race, therefore roughly from 1.30pm to 5pm. Watch out for parking bans with removal on Sarzanese, on Via Italica, on the Vecchia Provinciale in Frati, via Stadio, viale Oberdan, via Fondi area from Piazza Romboni, via Bellosguardo at the crossroads of via Tori, via Provinciale Est between via Leccio and the Montemagno cemetery from 11.30am to 4.30pm. The road to Pedona-Corsanico-Massarosa will be open, the road from Capezzano-Monteggiori-Santa Lucia is instead interrupted by the landslide in via Balza Fiorita.

The caravan will arrive from Via di Camaiore in Torre around 5.15pm and will continue on the same road crossing the hamlets of Cappella and Monte San Quirico up to the bridge over the Serchio. From here Borgo Giannotti, via Augusto Passaglia, viale Matteo Civitali, viale Pompeo Batoni, piazza Martiri della Libertà, viale Carlo Del Prete, viale Lazzaro Papi, piazzale Luigi Boccherini and arrival in viale Carducci, in front of the Campo Balilla. On the area of ​​the route up to Piazzale Boccherini the parking ban with removal will be from 8.30 am on Wednesday 8 May until the competition has completely passed, with total closure to traffic from 2 pm.

In Piazza del Collegio and Piazza Santa Maria, Viale Luporini, Via Nieri, Via Giusti, Piazza Curtatone, Via Mazzini, Via Montegrappa, Via Sauro, Via Per Corte Pulia, Via Filzi parking ban with removal from 8pm on Tuesday 7 May until at 9pm on Wednesday 8 May. And we come to the arrival area (viale Carducci including the car park of the same name, viale Cavour, piazzale Ricasoli, viale Regina Margherita, piazza Umberto I, viale della Repubblica, Porta San Pietro): the parking ban with removal will come into force from 8pm on Tuesday 7 May and will end at 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 May. The transit ban will be active from 5 am until 11.59 pm.

Porta San Pietro will be closed to vehicular transit from 5am to 11.59pm. From 2 pm to the end of the race the only doors to access the center will be Porta San Iacopo and Porta Elisa. Between 5am and 9pm, only the western lane of the Viale Europa overpass heading south will remain open to traffic. For the opposite route there will be the San Donato variant. In Viale Giusti and its side streets the transit ban will last from 5 am to 9 pm with the exceptions: in Viale Giusti, Via Sauro and Via Per Corte Pulia entry and exit from private areas will be allowed. Authorized persons will always be allowed to enter viale Giusti and via Filzi. In agreement with all the competent authorities, the schools will be closed and the market in Piazzale Don Baroni will not take place on that day.
