According to Bmti findings, the bad weather is definitely affecting fruit and vegetable prices, with the typical varieties of the period not taking off
The persistence of the bad weather, especially between the north and center of the Peninsula, is also known to be reflected in fruit and vegetables, with melons not taking off, and a decreasing demand for strawberries and peaches that have not taken off. According to Bmti findings, asparagus, which will end the season early, is still performing well, as are lettuces, which are affected by the difficulties in the countryside and are increasing further compared to the previous week.
Asparagus, prices on the rise
Decreasing quantities and increasing prices for asparagus. The season, which started at full speed and with high quantities thanks to above average temperatures, is coming to an early end. Prices have risen in recent weeks, reaching very high levels compared to twelve months ago. Demand continues to travel at good levels.
Spring onions, substantial stability
The sale of red onions from Calabria has started, with high quantities coming in and prices immediately reaching normal levels, with a rapid decline. However, no particular variations were recorded for white spring onion.
Green beans, shy rise
The Italian green bean campaign continues. With the arrival of low temperatures, production slowed down slightly, which led to an increase in prices in some markets, as in the case of Turin. The low product availability causes the trend to rise to levels higher than the same period last year.
Strawberries, decreasing demand
With the arrival of bad weather and high prices, the demand for strawberries suffered a slight slowdown, causing prices to fall. Lucanian production is about to end, while the first batches of Venetian product are arriving. To cope with the high level of the price lists, batches of Spanish strawberries have also appeared at more competitive levels.
Lettuces, the rise continues
Another increase for lettuces, which have suffered strong slowdowns in production due to heavy rains and low temperatures, a climate that is not favorable for growth. These increases should continue for a few more days, and then there will be a recovery in production with the arrival of good weather.
Melons, bad weather discourages purchases
Demand for melons has not yet picked up pace, as low temperatures discourage consumers from purchasing them. For this reason, prices are also falling thanks to the quantities that are gradually increasing.
Japanese medlars without variations
There are no particular variations recorded for Japanese medlars imported from Spain. There is a good balance between supply and demand, a factor that does not significantly change the prices.
Peppers reverse the trend and go down
Trend reversal for pepper prices. After the strong increases recorded in recent days, the price lists are falling, while remaining at high levels. Change of origin for Square peppers: Spanish production has now ended, Dutch product is arriving. The trend is lower than last year, with good quantities present but with unsustainable demand.
Peaches, start with the handbrake on
The peach and nectarine campaign is underway. Spanish production was the first to enter the markets. Demand, however, is not yet sustained, both due to the suboptimal quality and the climate which does not favor consumption. Italian production should accompany sales in the coming weeks, thanks also to the arrival of warm weather.
Courgettes, prices decreasing
The sharp increase recorded in recent weeks has an impact on the sales of courgettes. Demand suffered a slight slowdown, causing prices to fall again, although remaining at high levels. The cold is slowing down the full area, which however is progressively filling the markets, alongside the Sicilian and Lazio greenhouse production.
