Genoa – The president of Liguria Giovanni Toti was placed under house arrest following an investigation by the Genoa prosecutor’s office into a corruption ring, as reported by La Stampa. Also among those under investigation Francesco Moncada, director of Esselunga SpA. and husband of Marina Caprotti (not under investigation). A disqualification measure has been placed on him, which subjects him to temporary ban on carrying out entrepreneurial and professional activities on charges of corruption. Also involved in the investigation Aldo Spinelli, former president of the Genoa and Livorno football clubs, now under house arrest; And Paolo Emilio Signorini, former president of the Port Authority of Genoa. For him the measure ordered is that of precautionary custody in prison.
According to the magistrates, reports La Stampa, “a system of power would have directed for years, with diversified responsibilities and actions in a chronic tangle of bribes and favors, some of the most important political-administrative operations that took place in Liguria”. An entire chapter would be dedicated “to favors from Esselunga to Toti. The company’s objective, based on the reconstruction of the military of the economic-financial police unit led by General Andrea Fiducia, was to consolidate the expansion in Genova: after the supermarket in the Albaro district, inaugurated in December 2020, the one in San Benigno was christened in May last year, while two others are under construction in Sestri Ponente and Savona”, reports the newspaper. “The bribes, again in the prosecution’s theory now accredited by the judge, sometimes materialized in the form of political advertising campaignsbilled as ordinary commercial advertisements mostly by the television broadcaster Primocanale, whose editor Maurizio Rossi is under investigation”.
