Prices of petrol and diesel in Slovenia

The new petrol and diesel prices in Slovenia came into force from midnight today, Tuesday 7 May. The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy has announced that the cost of petrol at 95 reaches 1,541 euros per litre. At the same time, the price of diesel goes to 1,484 euros per liter. It is important to note that regulated fuel prices only apply to petrol stations outside the motorway network.

This leaves retailers along the highways free to set prices as they please. These fuel price updates can affect your transportation costs and everyday spending of drivers, both local and passing through. It is therefore advisable to be aware of these variations to properly plan your trips and manage your expenses.

In Slovenia, the price of petrol remains consistently lower than in Italy. This disparity noand the costs is mainly attributable to the different fiscal policies adopted by the two countries. While in Italy prices are influenced by high excise duties and heavier taxation, in Slovenia the situation is different.

Unlike Italy, which has a more extensive network of 13 refineries, Slovenia has only 5 oil refining plants. This difference in the number of refineries can impact fuel production and transportation costs. However, the main reason why petrol costs less in Slovenia than in Italy is taxation. Even with the recent elimination of the excise duty discount in Italy, fuel prices in the Bel Paese continue to be high, in some cases reaching 2 euros per litre.
