Alfa Romeo Junior, not just Special: the prices of mild hybrid and electric

On the mild hybrid front, two proposals are planned, sharing the power of 136 horsepower but different in type of traction. In fact, in a subsequent phase, aAlfa Romeo Junior Q4, destined to use the same mild hybrid scheme brought to its debut by Avenger 4xe, equipped with an electric motor on the rear axle, as well as on the gearbox.

It is no surprise that the sharing of techniques (and some internal details) is so vast. The architecture is common, the engines as well, up to and including thatAlfa Romeo Veloce with 240 horsepower, which will be the top of the range electric offer. We were expecting a Quadrifoglio, but instead the battery-powered sports car will be Veloce: 54 kWh of energy, 240 horsepower, specific anti-roll bars (larger) and Torsen front differential. Here too, technical familiarity with the Abarth 600e.

The standard electric version is, however, one Junior with 156 horsepower, 410 km of autonomy and the same battery size (rechargeable up to 100 kW in DC).

Returning to Junior 1.2 petrol mild hybrid, 136 horsepower they are supported by the electric motor installed on the 6-speed dual clutch gearbox (also made in Mirafiori, in addition to the Metz site). A scheme that allows the b-suv to move for short periods in electric mode, such as in parking operations and stop&go traffic jams. Furthermore, the possibility of sailing with the engine off. The technical specifications say about a mild hybrid whose weight is positioned at 1,305 kg, 1,545 kg for the electric. Numbers from a compact sedan of the past. The positioning is in the B segment, highly competitive on the SUV side.

DIMENSIONS

The dimensions of the Alfa Romeo project are 4.17 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.5 meters high. In the large boot there is space for up to 400 liters of volume, organized on three levels of double bottom and accessible from a hands-free tailgate. Junior electric, then, has a small front trunk used by the Alfa Romeo Style Center to create a tidy organizer for the charging cable. The standard charger is 7 kW, the Special setup offers the 11 kW one.

PRICES

In the price chapter, the announced price list says: Alfa Romeo Milano Electric from 39,500 euros; Milan mild hybrid from 29,900 euros. And the equipment includes 17″ wheels (18″ on the electric), full LED headlights, seats with fabric covering and manual adjustments. The hi-tech component combines instrumentation and infotainment, both 10.25 inches, but the navigator is missing (available as an option or in the Techno pack).

The Adas include adaptive cruise control and active lane keeping. With the 2,500 euro Techno pack, in addition to Level 2 (standard on the Alfa Romeo Junior Speciale), we find the Matrix LED headlights, the hands-free tailgate, the rear-view camera and the front, rear and side parking sensors. The pack solution is decidedly convenient.

In the Special version, launch edition, both Junior mhev and electric are offered with a solution 36 month rental at 200 euros per month. The mileage included in the rent is 10 thousand km per year, the extra kilometer is invoiced at 6 euro cents per excess kilometre. The advance and final maxi-payment solutions vary, with the possibility of returning or replacing the car after 35 months. The advance is 8,779 euros on the Milano 1.2 mild hybrid, 20,610 euros for the redemption (APR 6.42%). Electric Junior provides an advance payment of 7,682 euros and a redemption of 24,786 euros (6.23% APR).

INTERIOR

Continuing with the story of the B-suv, on board the architectural differentiation of the dashboard from other Stellantis models was successful. The infotainment is placed low and in the center of the dashboard, the surfaces are very angular, the vinyl and fabric upholstery, the air vents inspired by the four-leaf clover. There is a very distinct Alfa Romeo personality.

The telescope instrumentation measures 10.25 inches, as does the infotainment display with a widget home page and ChatGPT to complete the voice assistant. A carryover of certain solutions is found in the piano keys under the infotainment display. When it comes to Adas, Level 2 assistance offers everything you need for safe and comfortable driving. Worth noting are the presence of the adaptive Matrix LED headlights, the panoramic roof and the announcement of promotions dedicated to Alfa Romeo Mito and Giulietta customers.

DESIGN

Style is a detail destined to cause discussion. Purists may turn up their noses, but overall the Alfa Romeo Junior is a successful design. Forced to speak the language of the young audience he addresses, he adopts sharp and angular lines.

Originality is maximum on the front, which reveals a futuristic treatment of the grille with the Biscione appearing on the trilobe in body color. Various proposals, depending on the trim levels, range from the mesh grille to a body-coloured cover.

The full LED headlights are on two levels and the glossy black treatment connects the headlights towards the grille. Cooling needs are entirely taken care of by the bumper fascia. The low positioning of the license plate is interesting: it leaves full emphasis to the most convincing volume of the SUV: the front.

New features at the rear which continue with the Alfa Romeo writing in the center of the tailgate, where the Tonale – for example – writes its name. Original and worth reading in a key SUV-coupé is the treatment of the rear window, very inclined and tapered towards the edge of the tailgate. A tail perhaps visually a little heavier, which uses the truncated tail treatment, inspired by the Giulia TZ and also with the function of aerodynamic optimization (improves the separation of the flows behind the vehicle).
