It’s Bomba Day: the city empties
There are 36 thousand people from Viterbo who will have to stay out of their homes and the red zone by 9 am
VITERBO – (RV) It’s the big day of defusing the bomb found in via Alcide De Gasperi. A 4000 pound bomb equal to 2000 kilos in weight and highly dangerous. For this reason, today’s cleanup operations are considered particularly complex and required the evacuation of 36 thousand Viterbo residents.
From 6 this morning, gates manned by the police will be activated to prevent access to the area and facilitate outgoing flow.
By this morning at 9am the area located within a radius of 1400 meters from the discovery of the bomb must be cleared.
Electricity and gas utilities will be suspended only for users within a radius of 500 meters from the location of the bomb. The electricity will be turned off at 7 and the gas at 6.
Anti-looting checks began yesterday evening, including the overflight of 9 drones, checks that will continue today. The three reception centres, identified in the parishes of Santa Barbara, Santa Maria della Grotticella alla Mazzetta and the parish church of the Holy Family in Carmine, Salamaro, will host 900 Viterbo residents who have requested them.
Today local public transport on Francigena will be suspended all day as the same buses will be used to accompany the population from the 24 collection points to the reception centres.
The schools will all remain closed with the exception of those located in the former Municipalities.
As regards specifically the bomb disposal operations, these involve two phases: a first phase of ‘neutralization’ of the bomb on site, then transport to the Monte Romano range, where it will be ”emptied”.
The start and end of operations will be signaled by the sound of sirens.
