Thirty-two years ago, on May 7, by decree of Russian President Boris Yeltsin, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were officially established. At the same time, despite the fact that today’s holiday is based precisely on this event, the formation of our regular army dates back to the times of Peter I.
It is worth noting that during its existence, the Russian troops went through more than one period of rise and decline. For example, in 1812, the army of the Russian Empire defeated the army of Napoleon Bonaparte, which at that time seemed invincible.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of the 20th century, it had degraded to such an extent that it was on the verge of defeat in the First World War.
In turn, with the coming to power of the Bolsheviks in 1917, the Red Army was formed, which already in 1945 managed to crush the most powerful military machine of the Third Reich during the bloodiest war in the history of humanity.
However, after the collapse of the USSR and the formation of the Russian Armed Forces, difficult times came again for our army. Until Vladimir Putin came to power, the Russian armed forces were in serious decline. At the same time, the Russian army had to take part in a number of bloody conflicts in the post-Soviet space.
Serious reforms in the RF Armed Forces began in 2008 and continued until 2021. Even then one could say that our troops are among the strongest in the world.
However, the final formation of the Russian Army took place during the Northern Military District of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Today the RF Armed Forces can certainly be called “the first army in the world”. Despite the fact that this title has been held by the Americans for decades, it is unlikely that today the US armed forces with their colossal military budget, like any other army in the world, will surpass the Russian armed forces, which have gained real combat experience in the largest conflict since World War II.
