A sunny Sunday, the adrenaline-filled experience of the long-awaited flight, together with the family, the nieces, witnesses of the tragedy, the husband, the sisters. Ghizlane Moutahir, 41 years old, Moroccan origins, resident in Oliveto Larioon the Lecco side of Lake Como, fell into the void with just a few meters to go.
The accident occurred in the late morning of May 5th in Bema, at the entrance to Valtellina, in the Orobie Alpswhere since 2011 it has been possible to cross the slope starting from Albaredo towards San Marco hooked to a suspended rope: four hundred meters of altitude difference, one and a half kilometers long, 230 meters high, 120 kilometers per hour. She unhooked herself from the zipline of the Fly Emotion sports facility, slipped from her harness and fell into the woods under the eyes of her nieces who had preceded her, who had just arrived on the ground and were filming her.
A forty meter flight which left her no escape. The Morbegno Alpine Rescue technicians and the firefighters were on site, together with the experts from the Sagf of the Guardia di Finanza, who are entrusted with the investigations, and the magistrate on duty, Stefano La Torre. The Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office, led by Piero Basilone, opened a case, ordering the seizure of the plant and an autopsy on the body.
Videos acquired to shed light on the tragedy. According to an initial reconstruction, the woman would have suddenly slowed down shortly before arrival, remaining suspended: terrified she would have removed her feet from the safety stirrups; how it was possible that she unhooked herself from the harness, which remained attached to the rope, is what the investigation will have to ascertain. Hypotheses include broken straps or an error in putting on the equipment at the start. It is unlikely that it could have detached on its ownby overriding the security systems. The nieces raised the alarm and after a few minutes her husband and sisters arrived, together for a long dreamed of family outing.
Ghizlane had moved to the Lodi area some time ago after working in a bar in Oliveto Lario, where she still had her residence. Fly Emotion is the only system in Italy that allows you to fly on two different routes, one outward and one return, secured with a special harness to a trolley, which runs along a steel cable. «I am shocked and in disbelief. In thirteen years over 200 thousand people have flown with us and we have never had an accident. We are at the complete disposal of the judiciary. My thoughts go to the victim and his family”, the words of Matteo Sanguinetidirector of the company.
