Crime in Jesolo, where a 64-year-old tobacconist, Roberto Basso, he was found dead in his home in via Antiche Mura 5. The victim, unmarried, lived alone: until some time he lived with his elderly mother. On site were the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di San Donà, their colleagues from Venice, the Ris and the forensic medicine specialists from Padua. The causes of death have not been disclosed, but the most serious hypothesis, that of a crime, has not been ruled out. The methods of discovery of the body and its conditions could in fact be traced back to a violent death.

The 64-year-old was the owner of a tobacconist in the Lido di Jesolo area, and had an economic share in a hotel together with a brother. He had recently lost his mother, who lived with him, and therefore he was alone in a house isolated from other residential buildings in the area. His death greatly affected the neighbors, who went to his house in the afternoon, as well as relatives who also lived in the area, including cousins.

The medical examiner was also brought to the site for the first inspection and from the reconnaissance an element emerged which could lead to the more serious hypothesis: some marks were found on Basso’s neck, which would suggest strangulation, in addition to the head trauma due to the fall to the ground. This is a first element to be confirmed with the autopsy, which will certainly be ordered by prosecutor Zorzi, who coordinates the investigations. For now, however, all leads are open, including that of a domestic accident that could have caused the neck injuries.
