This evening, at 6.30 pm, in the conference room of the former Palazzo De Maria, in Corte Taddeo, the second meeting of the course entitled “The brief urban history of Galatina: memories, news and traces” will take place, organized by the internationally renowned architect and our fellow citizen Rosario Scrimieri.

Even the two decades in question today, the 70s and 80s, will be preceded by notes on political and economic-social life, by an evaluation of the legislation in force in the period in question and by an analysis of urban planning and construction.

In particular, as in the previous conference, our illustrious guest will initially offer us some testimonies of his creations and of some other artists who collaborated in different moments of his production.

We will thus have the opportunity to view a short precious film from 1981 relating to the creation, transport and assembly of the work by Giacomo Manzù and Armando Marrocco for the new Presbytery of the Basilica of Santa Rita in Cascia, a place where he left traces of particular our architect is notable, as he also involved artisan workers from our city.

What is the meaning of the video presentation?

“It allows us to represent an example of how a work can modify tourist flows and the consequent growth of hospitality works destined to change the structure of a city”.

Various legislative interventions of those two decades will be the subject of attention, such as Law 865 of 1971, the Bucalossi law (1974), the Galasso law (1980) and Regional Law n.56/1980 on the “Protection and use of the territory”: all regulatory measures that will have an impact on the urban development of our city.

The conferences on this topic are fully inserted into some of the most significant programmatic lines of our association, that is, a broad-spectrum interest in our territory and an active citizenship education activity, aimed at making all of us as citizens who participate in the events of our daily life, also through a necessary historical awareness.

And we are grateful to the architect Rosario Scrimieri for the contribution he is offering us from the height of his precious and profound professionalism.
