TRENT. So much pain, in these hours, for a young life that passed away in Trento. The death of John Sebastian Floriani, 26 years old, has left everyone dismayed, the condolences are widespread and deep.
To fix the day of the funeral an autopsy is pendingwhich was ordered by the judiciary, after the death of the boy, which occurred ten days after the dramatic accident at work, at the construction site for the blasting and safety measures on the wall on Mount Calisio which collapsed three years ago, in the area above Martignano.
To reconstruct the dynamics of the injury, which occurred on the afternoon of April 24th, Uopsal investigations are underwaythe prevention and safety operational unit in the workplace.
It was ascertained that John Floriani was not on the wall at the time of the fall: he fell about sixty meters from the top, after he had taken off his harness, probably while he was collecting the equipment to place it in the warehouse.
The young man, who grew up in Canzolino di Pergine and has been living in Martignano for some timefought for ten days in the intensive care unit of the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento, but his condition was too serious: his heart stopped beating at dawn on Saturday.
John Sebastian Floriani is the ninth victim of an accident at work in Trentino since the beginning of the year. A drama «that leaves us astonished and dismayed», as highlighted by Manuela Faggioni (Cgil of Trentino), Michele Bezzi (CISL of Trentino) and Walter Alotti (Uil of Trentino): «A new tragedy in the workplace tears away the affection of its dear, of his friends and of the entire community of Martignano, a young man in the prime of life. We are moved by them to offer all our solidarity and closeness.”
Today, May 6, the Trento municipal council also issued a note of condolencehoping that light will be shed on the causes of the accident.
“The municipal administration – we read – is close to the family of John Floriani Sebastiani”. He was an employee of the private South Tyrolean company that won the Municipality’s contract for the safety of the rock face above Maderno, the place where a large landslide occurred in 2021.
“The hope of the municipal administration is that light will be shed as soon as possible on the causes of the accident also to avoid the repetition of other, unacceptable tragedies. The entire council’s embrace of John’s family and friends”, writes the Common.
The number of workplace fatalities in the first four months of 2024 exceeds the total accident deaths last year (there were 8). «If to this trickle of deaths we add the increase in accident cases reported to INAIL in the first three months of the year compared to the same period in 2023, it is clear how serious the current situation is in terms of the ability to prevent and avoid work-related accidents” highlight the unions.
«This is why we need an urgent meeting of the provincial workplace health and safety committee – they ask – to analyze the trend of accidents in Trentino, relaunch prevention activities and promote specific interventions at the level of control and promotion of compliance with the rules for the health of workers. We cannot pretend nothing has happened, it is time to raise everyone’s attention, starting from public institutions and individual employers, so that this long trail of blood can be put to an end.”
