Punta Ala- Satisfaction for the 553 sailors, from 25 nations, who raced at the Centro Velico Punta Ala for the Italian leg of the ILCA Europa Cup. Very technical races, with 18-25 knots of Mistral on Friday (the day in which only the fleets of the women’s ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 Olympic classes raced) and thermal breezes between 5 and 7 knots on Saturday and Sunday. No racing on Thursday due to a strong Libeccio-Ponente. The PuntAla Camping Resort was well organised, the logistical base for the event in the splendid scenery of the woods, beaches and cliffs of the Maremma.

In ILCA 7, after 7 races, victory went to the Frenchman Theo Peyre, with Cesare Barabino (Young Azzurra YCCS team) second and first Italian. Third place for Attilio Borio from La Spezia. First Under 21 is Enrico Tanferna.

In the women’s ILCA 6, after 7 races, Emma Mattivi (Fraglia Vela Riva, 6-14-2-3-1-1-3) wins, also first under 21, ahead of the Finnish Voutilainen and Carlotta Rizzardi. Cecilia Belletti first Under 19 and the Irish Sienna Wright first Under 17.

In the men’s ILCA 6, after 5 races, Francesco Luzi wins (9-1-2-1-1), first Under 19, ahead of the Swiss Ulysse Raison and Federico Cittadini, first Under 17.

In ILCA 4 success for Clara Lorenzi (CN Bardolino, 3-2-1-3-1), first female. Second Francesco Tesser, first Under 16. Third Lorenzo Ghirotti.

Devoti Sailing, sponsor of the event, provided ILCA Italia with a new Ilca Devoti hull which was drawn at random from among the approximately 400 Italian sailors present. The lucky winner was the very young Giulio Felice Gessi.

The Punta Ala Sailing Center will also organize the Master Finn World Championship from 10 to 16 June, with three hundred registered helmsmen.
