Tragedy on the Piacenza hills, where the joy of a spring-like Sunday turned into a nightmare: the 57-year-old centaur Giuseppe CappucciatiOf Piacenza, died after a crash while riding his two-wheeler. The drama occurred in the early afternoon of Sunday 5 May along the Val Trebbia state road 45, in Cisiano di Rivergaro.

“He was a person with a kind soul,” he recalled Lodovico Albasi, mayor of Travo. «As children – we read in the Corriere della Sera – together with his sister Graziella, we played hide and seek in the small hamlet of Scarniago di Travo, a small town where his father was originally from. Our community is very saddened by his untimely passing.”

The 57-year-old, who worked as a representative of medicinal products for animals, was riding his motorbike last Sunday while returning from lunch with his mother. While he was headed towards Bobbio he lost control of the vehicle, crashing violently into a wooden pole on the edge of the road and dying instantly. The paramedics arrived immediately, including the air ambulance, who could do nothing but confirm his death.

The love of sport

Always passionate about sport, at just 19 years old, in 1986, Giuseppe Capucciati had become an Italian silver medalist in decathlon, shining particularly in the javelin and pole vault. «For me he was the “gentle giant”», recalled Sabina Cappa of the Piacenza Athletics Society, moved. «He was a few years older than me, and for me, as well as for many other young people, he was an example both for his good heart and for the passion he had for sport», she said.

Condolences also come fromAthletics Piacenza who in a place on Facebook wanted to pay homage to the 57-year-old who had just passed away: «Dear Beppe, we will always remember you as the SUPERMAN who as a young man was able to excel in the difficult discipline of Decathlon and later, exploiting his great power qualities, was protagonist in athletics throws (javelin and discus) and in weightlifting competitions. Despite your great qualities you were a modest, loyal athlete, always ready to put yourself at the service of society. We will always remember you – the company’s promise – Rest in peace.”
